Ramadhan :: What About and Advises During Ramadhan

Author:
so What is Ramadhan?
Ramadan (Arabic: رمضان‎ Ramaḍān, Arabic pronunciation: [rɑmɑˈdˤɑːn]) (also Ramadhan, Ramadaan, Ramazan) is the ninth month of the Islamic calendar, which lasts 29 to 30 days. It is the Islamic month of fasting, in which participating Muslims refrain from eating and drinking (Wiki)
Ramadhan is a very important part of every Muslim’s life. Ramadhan is the month of Fasting, giving and mercy, and during this month Allah blesses the believers with forgiveness and great reward.
This is a time to stop and contemplate, to look inwards and out, it is a time to set our goals. We should ask ourselves what we want to achieve this month, - something we will carry into our futures.

Some Important verses I Qur`an in relation To Ramadhan:

2:183
O ye who believe! Fasting is prescribed to you as it was prescribed to those before you, that ye may (learn) self-restraint

2:184 (Fasting) for a fixed number of days; but if any of you is ill, or on a journey, the prescribed number (should be made up) from days later. For those who can do it (with hardship), is a ransom, the feeding of one that is indigent. But he that will give more, of his own free will, it is better for him. And it is better for you that ye fast, if ye only knew.(ramadhanzone)

The following beautiful advises are at the most for Muslim during Ramadhan:

From the book "Khulaasatul Kalaam" by Shaykh Jaarullah.

Brother Muslim, Sister Muslima:

1. Fast Ramadhan with belief and truly seeking the reward of Allah the Most High so that He may forgive you your past sins.

2. Beware of breaking your fast during the days of Ramadhan without a valid Islamic excuse, for it is from the greatest of sins.

3. Pray Salat ut-Taraweeh and the night prayer during the nights of Ramadhan - especially on Layatul-Qadr - based on belief and truly seeking the reward of Allah, so that Allah may forgive you your past sins.

4. Make sure that your food, your drink and your clothing are from halal means, in order that your actions be accepted, and your supplications answered. Beware of refraining from the halal while fasting and breaking your fast with the haram.

5. Give food to some fasting people to gain a reward similar to theirs.

6. Perform your five prayers on time in congregation to gain the reward and Allah's protection.

7. Give a lot of charity for the best charity is that of Ramadhan.

8. Beware of spending your time without performing righteous deeds, for you will be responsible and reckoned for it and will be rewarded for all you do during your time.

9. Perform `umrah in Ramadhan for `Umrah in Ramadhan is equal to Hajj.

10. Seek help for fasting during the day by eating the sahoor meal in the last part of the night before the appearance of Fajr.

11. Hasten breaking your fast after the sun has truly set in order to gain the love of Allah.

12. Perform ghusl before fajr if you need to purify yourself from the state of major impurity so that you are able to do acts of worship in a state of purity and cleanliness.

13. Cease the opportunity of being in Ramadhan and spend it with the good that has been revealed in it - by reciting the noble Qur'an and pondering and reflection of its meanings so that it be a proof for you with your Lord and an intercessor for you on the Day of Reckoning.

14. Preserve your tongue from lying, cursing, backbiting and slander for it decreases the reward of fasting.

15. Do not let fasting cause you cross your boundaries by getting upset due to the slightest of reasons. Rather, fating should be a cause of peacefulness and tranquility of your soul.

16. Upon completion of fasting, be in a state of taqwa of Allah the Most High, being aware of Allah watching you in secret and in public, in thankfulness for His favors, and steadfastness upon obedience of Allah by doing all what He has ordered and shunning all that He has prohibited.

17. Increase in remembrance of Allah, seeking of forgiveness, asking for Paradise and protection against the Fire, especially when fasting, while breaking the fast and during suhoor, for these actions are among greatest causes of attaining Allah's forgiveness.

18. Increase in supplication for yourself, your parents, your children and Muslims, for Allah has ordered making of supplications and has guaranteed acceptance.

19. Repent to Allah with a sincere repentance in all times by leaving sins, regretting those that you have done before and firmly deciding not to return to them in the future, for Allah accepts repentance of those who repent.

20. Fast six days of Shawwal, for whoever fasts Ramadhan and then follows it with six days of Shawwal, it is as if he fasts all the time.

21. Fast on the Day of `Arafah, the 9th of Dhul Hijjah, to attain success by being forgiven your sins of the last year and the coming year.

22. Fast on the day of `Aashuraa', the 10th of Muharram, along with the 9th, to attain success by being forgiven your sins of the past year.

23. Continue being in a state of iman and taqwa and perform righteous actions after the month of Ramadhan, until you die. "And worship your Lord until there comes to you the certainty (i.e. death)". [Qur'an 15:99]

24. Ensure that you attain the positive effects of your acts of worship such as prayer, fasting, zakat and hajj, sincere repentance and leaving of customs that are in variance with the Sharee`ah.

25. Invoke a lot of salawat and salam upon the Messenger of Allah, may Allah's blessings and peace be upon him, his Companions and all those who follow them until the Day of Judgment.

O Allah make us and all Muslims of those who fast and stand in prayer during the month of Ramadhan based on belief and truly seeking Your reward so that we are forgiven our past and future sins.

O Allah make us of those who fasted the month, attained full reward, witnessed Layatul-Qadr and attained success by permission of the Lord, Blessed and Most High.

O Allah, verily you are Forgiver, like to forgive, so forgive us.

O Lord, accept from us, verily you are the All-Hearing, all-Seeing, O Living, O Independent, O Owner of all majesty and honor.

And may Allah's blessings and peace be upon Muhammad, his family and his Companions. (islaam)

Lifeline to Avert Greek Bankruptcy Deal Is Delayed Until July

Author:
The ministers’ action fell short of expectations raised Thursday when Olli Rehn, the European commissioner for economic and monetary affairs, said in a statement that he was confident the leaders would reach agreement in Luxembourg to provide Greece the next installment of aid in early July.

Jean-Claude Juncker of Luxembourg, who leads the group of 17 euro zone finance ministers, said he expected the disbursal to be approved if deep spending cuts and new reform measures were enacted. “I cannot imagine for one second that we would commit to finance Greece without knowing that the Greek Parliament has given a vote of confidence to the Greek government,” he said.

Mr. Papandreou’s Socialist Party has been working to shore up its tenuous political position in the face of widespread anger in Greece over strict austerity measures that have produced job losses and cuts to wages and pensions. Late last week Mr. Papandreou shuffled his cabinet and appointed a Socialist stalwart, Evangelos Venizelos, as the new finance minister.

The Story Reported by NYTimes on June 20, 2011 in their Title "Deal on Lifeline to Avert Greek Bankruptcy Is Postponed".

Here Is Report "Europe’s finance ministers unexpectedly put off approval early Monday of the next installment of aid to debt-laden Greece, delaying the decision until July and demanding that the Greek Parliament first approve spending cuts and financial reforms that include a large-scale privatization program.
After nearly seven hours of talks in Luxembourg, ministers announced a holding action that reflected their struggle over how to avert a potentially disastrous default by Greece. Athens needs the next payout of 12 billion euros from its existing 110 billion euro bailout package by mid-July in order to remain solvent.

The decision adds to pressure on the Greek government and its prime minister, George Papandreou, who on Sunday began urging Parliament to support his reform plans in a confidence vote scheduled for Tuesday night. European markets opened more than 1 percent lower on Monday on word of the delay, and the euro fell against the dollar.

The ministers did fall into line with an agreement made on Friday between the German chancellor, Angela Merkel, and the French president, Nicolas Sarkozy, over the extent to which private investors would be involved in a second bailout package, which Greece needs on top of its existing rescue package in order to meet its debt obligations through next year.

The ministers did agree that a second bailout would involve the private sector “in the form of informal and voluntary rollovers of existing Greek debt” — a solution deemed acceptable by the European Central Bank. Before backing down on Friday, Mrs. Merkel had initially pressed for debt swaps instead.

Asked about the mood of the talks, the Belgian finance minister, Didier Reynders, said “the atmosphere was good.”

“The problem was that we have to make progress on the role of the private sector, and we have made progress,” he said.

The discussion proved more complex than expected because the International Monetary Fund was insisting that the European Union effectively underwrite the Greek government if its financing plan did not add up over the next year, said one European official not authorized to speak publicly. Many governments resisted that effort because of the uncertainty in knowing how much of a financing gap there could be next year. It is also unclear what proportion of it could be covered by the private sector.

Devising a new bailout that would include voluntary private sector involvement, so it would not be classified as a default, will be complex, said one official not authorized to speak publicly, because the amount that the private sector agrees to contribute will largely determine how big a gap reluctant European governments will have to fill. Another big source will be Greece’s privatization program, intended to raise as much as 50 billion euros.

After a week of intense turmoil that ended with an overhaul of the ruling Socialist Party’s cabinet on Friday, Mr. Papandreou signaled on Sunday that he was prepared to make radical changes to the indebted Greek state system, and proposed an overhaul of the Constitution.

Declaring that the bloated government sector was largely to blame for the state of the Greek economy, Mr. Papandreou called for a referendum in the fall on a proposal to “change the political system” and revise the Constitution, which protects some 800,000 government workers.

Mr. Papandreou confirmed that talks were progressing between Greece and its foreign creditors for a second bailout package “approximately equal” to last year’s emergency loan package of 110 billion euros.

The stakes still remain high, with politicians aware of the risk of contagion.

“Nobody’s lending to the Greeks at the moment and that’s why we need to find a solution,” said Maria Fekter, Austria’s finance minister. “A default would be an ever bigger damage.”

All this comes a little more than a year after the international community offered the government in Athens its first package of 110 billion euros in loans to prevent it from having to borrow at crippling rates on the financial markets.

But Greece has since then failed to meet its economic goals because of a worse-than-expected recession, which has depressed revenues, as well as its own failure to install reforms. "

US And Greece Dept crisis Are Alike? - Money Talks

Author:
"The real fundamental similarity is trend. Both [countries' fiscal situations] are bad and getting worse," Barry Anderson, who used to run a budgeting and public expenditures division at the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development said.

That's because both the United States and Greece have aging populations and mature economies that aren't likely to grow as much as they have in the past.

Simply assuming that the United States will remain forever immune from the perils of too much debt is not a winning strategy, deficit hawks warn.

The Story Was Found In CNN Money On June 19 2011 on their title "Is the U.S. like Greece?".

Here is the Full Story "Deficit hawks often cite Greece's debt nightmare as a cautionary tale for the United States.

But is the United States really like Greece?

The differences between the countries, after all, give the United States some built-in advantages when it comes to managing its debt.

The U.S. economy? Gargantuan. Greece's economy? Tiny.

Plus, the United States' earning capacity is greater since it has a more diverse economy than Greece does, said Barry Anderson, who used to run a budgeting and public expenditures division at the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development.
The pain of Greece's crisis

There are also big differences in the countries' currencies.

The dollar is the world's reserve currency and is managed by a single government.

The euro, by contrast, is used by 17 sovereign countries. Therefore, Greece's monetary policy is set not according to Greece's needs but by the needs of stronger economies -- especially Germany -- that prefer higher interest rates as a bulwark against inflation.

The OECD, meanwhile, estimates that U.S. net debt will reach 75% of the country's economy this year. That number includes federal, state and local debt but excludes debt owed to government trust funds such as Social Security.

Greece's debt, by contrast, will be around 125%.

So what's the concern for the United States exactly?
0:00 / 04:41 Trichet: Greece is part of bigger problem

"The real fundamental similarity is trend. Both [countries' fiscal situations] are bad and getting worse," Anderson said.

That's because both the United States and Greece have aging populations and mature economies that aren't likely to grow as much as they have in the past.

Simply assuming that the United States will remain forever immune from the perils of too much debt is not a winning strategy, deficit hawks warn.

Of course, that's a hard case to make when investors embrace Treasuries every time they get spooked by turmoil in Europe. Events in Greece in recent days have driven the 10-year Treasury yield below 3%.

In other words, the United States continues to get the benefit of being a "safe haven" compared to the rest of the world.

But experts believe that investors won't always give Americans the benefit of the doubt.

"The markets do react late, but when they react they react pretty sharply," said Carlos Cottarelli, director of fiscal affairs at the International Monetary Fund, during a Committee for a Responsible Federal Budget conference this week.

A little over a year ago, investors' fears that Greece would ever default were considerably lower than they are today. So it's not surprising that the yield on 10-year Greek bonds is now pushing 18%, up from 6% at the start of 2010, according to Bloomberg markets data.

But even if U.S. rates don't rise soon -- and some say they won't because investors fear slower economic growth -- that doesn't mean markets can't find other ways to hurt the United States, Anderson said.

Investors might choose to punish the dollar if they start to believe Congress doesn't have the political will to do what's required to put the U.S. budget on a more sustainable track.

And a substantially weaker dollar would have all sorts of negative repercussions, including a possible credit downgrade from ratings agencies, said Michael Pond, managing director of fixed income strategy at Barclays Capital, at the CRFB conference.

The bottom line: The U.S. is not Greece in many ways. But it's also not immune from the punishing effects of debt."

In a complete story Samalive wrote "As many as 550 fishermen in 33 trawlers went missing in the Bay of Bengal on Friday in rough weather due to heavy rains triggered by a depression, prompting a search by a Coastguard ship and a Dornier aircraft.

The trawlers had set sail from Kakdwip and adjacent areas in South 24-Parganas district on Thursday and were reported missing in heavy rains following the depression lying 80 km east of Kolkata, District Magistrate N S Nigam told media persons over phone.

A Coastguard ship and a Dornier aircraft were despatched to trace the trawlers but the search was being "hindered by low-level high speed air circulation and low clouds", Defence sources said.

Nigam said he had earlier alerted the Coastguard and that the Navy has been approached to locate the missing fishermen.

He said the trawlers could have drifted towards Bangladesh. The West Bengal administration has contacted the Bangladesh deputy high commissioner here to help in the rescue operations, he said.

The naval officer-in-charge of West Bengal was also assisting in the search operation, the sources said.

Reports reaching here said communication had failed with the trawlers, which were equipped with radio transmitters and GPS system.

Romesh Das, owner of trawler FB Krishnakali, who managed to sail back to Gosaba, said, "I believe the fishermen could have taken shelter in the creeks at Kendo, Baghmara and Vhaimari in the Sunderbans core area."

The Sunderbans Fishermen Association President Subhas Sarkar maintained that the trawlers could have drifted from their course by strong westerly winds blowing towards Bangladesh.

Trinamool Congress MLA Manturam Pakhira raised the matter in the Assembly and urged the state government to take immediate steps to rescue the missing fishermen."

Daughters’ Sexual Behavior Influences By Their Father

Author:
“We know that poor fathering and daughters’ risky sexual behavior go together, but we haven’t known why and haven’t known how. Our study was meant to figure out that issue,”

Girls' decisions about sex are significantly influenced by their father’s parenting skills, a new study shows.

“Girls who receive lower quality fathering tend to engage in more risky sexual behavior -- sex without a condom, having sex while drunk, multiple sexual partners and becoming pregnant before age 19 -- in adolescence,” said Bruce J. Ellis of the University of Arizona Norton School of Family and Consumer Sciences, who led the research to be published in the journal Development and Psychopathology.

Ellis said taking both genetic effects and family dynamics, the results demonstrated a cause-and-effect relationship -- different amounts of exposure to different kinds of fathers altered daughters’ sexual behavior.

“We know that poor fathering and daughters’ risky sexual behavior go together, but we haven’t known why and haven’t known how. Our study was meant to figure out that issue,” he said.

Ellis and his team developed a methodology to test for the impact of fathers on their daughters’ sexual risk-taking.

They looked at 59 pairs of sisters from families in which the parents had divorced and the father moved out and compared with 42 pairs of sisters from intact families.

Evacuation urged for radioactive hot spots In Japan

Author:
"The areas which would exceed 20 millisieverts in the course of a year were limited and we did not find a wide spread in the region," Edano said.

"But it is natural for residents to feel anxious and we cannot rule out the possibility of exceeding 20 millisieverts depending on people's lifestyles away from the areas with high radiation . . . so we have decided to call people's attention, provide information, and support and promote evacuation."

In the Full Story japantimes reported "The government said Thursday it will recommend the evacuation of residents living in radioactive hot spots outside the no-entry zone around the Fukushima No. 1 nuclear plant.

In-depth monitoring by the government found the hot spots outside the 20-km evacuation zone in numerous places, including in Date and Minamisoma in Fukushima Prefecture where levels of radiation exceeded the equivalent of 20 millisieverts per year.

According to Chief Cabinet Secretary Yukio Edano, the results of the monitoring showed that the hot spots were limited in scope, unlike the situation in the evacuation zone, and therefore the government determined that "an across-the-board evacuation or restrictions of industrial activities" were unnecessary.

But at the same time, Edano explained that the government decided to encourage their evacuation because it couldn't completely rule out the possibility of residents being exposed to more than the 20-millisievert benchmark.

Households in hot spot zones will be contacted individually by their local governments.

Those who wish to leave will be issued documents certifying them as disaster victims and given government support to evacuate, while those who wish to remain will be able to continue to do so.

"We would especially like to discuss with local governments (ways) to urge families with pregnant women or children to evacuate," Edano said.

Because the radiation level is likely to change over time, Edano said the government will be flexible in lifting the recommendation.

"The level of environmental radiation changes, so we will conduct monitoring regularly and continue to provide information to the residents and local governments," Edano said. "If the level goes down, we will . . . be flexible about lifting the warning."

Hunger On Luxury Brands Are Growing In China

Luxury brands are finding it increasingly difficult to find a niche and build market share. Amid rising competition, brands need to be innovative and explore new marketing avenues to stay ahead.

These findings are based on a survey of 1,200 consumers in 24 tier-one and tier-two cities across China, conducted by market research company TNS. Respondents were between 20-45 years of age, earning a minimum of 7,500 yuan (798.6 euros) per month in tier-one cities and 5,500 yuan elsewhere.

The survey also finds that China's luxury buyers are basing their purchasing decisions on a wider range of factors. Consumers increasingly choose to reward or pamper themselves as opposed to seeking higher social status via their brand purchases.

In a Complete story an Opinion page on Chinadaily says "China is continuing its march toward becoming the largest luxury market in the world. The nation is now seen as a second home to many of the world's top brands, with everything from cars, handbags, watches, clothes and fine wines now sold in China.
Every year this market has grown more crowded, and it is becoming harder for luxury brands to tap into this market. The competition to grab a share of the Chinese wallet is immense now for luxury players.

A new survey by KPMG titled, "Luxury experiences in China", has highlighted the increasing brand recognition among Chinese consumers, at 57 brands this year compared with 45 last year.

Emotive factors such as "experience" and "self-reward" have now emerged alongside status-seeking and needs-based factors as key drivers. They also continue to place a lot of importance on the heritage of luxury brands.

We see signs of a new wave of luxury collecting and connoisseurship that is particularly evident among the wealthy in tier-two and tier-three cities. While the past year has seen an explosion of interest in fine wine, the survey suggests that jewelry, fine art and antiques also have strong growth potential.

With increased opportunities for Chinese to travel overseas, and many people now investing in more luxurious residential properties, there are a wider range of environments in which people can choose to consume and experience luxury. Lifestyle expenditures on health and beauty treatments and spas are also rising.

In terms of the most popular brands, French, Italian and Hong Kong brands have emerged as the top choices for purchases by China's luxury-conscious consumers.

The survey found that consumers in China increasingly associate various countries and regions with particular products. French and Italian products grabbed the first and second positions, while Hong Kong products are the third most popular."

Fired After Telling Employer His Wife Has Cancer - The Reality of Life

Author:
"The reality of life is that it is a lot more difficult for a small company to deal with a situation where an employee is going to be out of work for an extended period of time than it is for a larger company," Frank said.

Sorabella said he and his wife of 23 years, Kathy, learned she had stage 4 incurable cancer in late April. He said he asked his employer, Haynes Management, a real estate company in Wellesley Hills, Mass., that week for a more flexible work schedule to deal with his wife's care.
"When I told my boss, she said 'We were thinking about laying you off.' I thought, 'You can't do that,'" Sorabella told WCVB.

In a Full Story ABC NEWS Wrote : "Sorabella, 43, says he offered to work evenings and weekends while he accompanies his wife, 44, during testing and treatments.

"Ultimately she said don't worry about it and come in on Monday, and when I came in on Monday I got a letter that I would be laid off," he said. Sorabella said the letter stated he was being laid off due to "workforce modifications." But one week after he was fired, he says he saw a listing for his job on the company website.

"She said, 'It's business. I'm running a company here, and I need to make sure the department runs.' And I argued that I would make sure the company runs," Sorabella said.

Sorabella, who had worked for the company for 14 years, says he had even received a raise in November.

In an e-mail, vice president of Haynes Management Mary Butler told WCVB "this is a private personnel matter and we are not going to comment publicly."

The company did not immediately respond to a request for additional comment.

Sorabella said he is speaking with an attorney and may look to the Massachusetts Commission Against Discrimination, but he said there is almost no recourse for a small business.

"The company is considered a small company even though they have millions of dollars in annual sales," Sorabella said.

Kathy Sorabella, 44, said she was just as shocked as her husband when he was laid off. She said he was a diligent employee who went to work early and left late.

"He was one of these company guys," she said, adding that they did not have children.

Adding to their financial difficulties is their $60,000 worth of graduate school loans from Kathy's studies in psychotherapy. Kathy, currently undergoing chemotherapy, said she is considering trying to obtain a part-time job despite her nausea and loss of appetite. Kathy Sorabella said her cancer had not spread as far as initially believed, though she will not know if she has a year or 10 years to live until her next CAT scan in three months.

For now, Sorabella and his wife are surviving on his unemployment and her disability insurance while he looks for work.

"Now we're just spending time with each other," said Kathy. "This has been a horrific situation."

White House Urges Greece For Immediately Reform To Rescue Global Economy

Author:
White House urges Greece to immediately reform that aims to rescue the floundering economy, and warned that failure to reform could lead to "a whirlwind" for the global economy.
"It is essential for the Greek government to make reforms," said White House spokesman, Jay Carney, on Thursday (16 / 6). "We closely monitor the situation and developments in Greece, and we are in regular communication with our colleagues in Europe. We believe they have the capacity to handle this."

So far, Carney said, Greece has made significant progress in terms of reform, but it is essential for the Greek government to deal with the fiscal measures and reforms that are often discussed with European Union and the IMF.

Meanwhile, the EU tried to buy time to patch together a second bailout package for Greece, where the debt crisis will trigger a huge strain on the euro.

The International Monetary Fund (IMF) earlier said it was ready to continue to support Greece in the debt crisis, but only during the Athens adopt economic measures that have been approved.

"We are ready to continue our support for Greece to adopt economic policy reforms that have been approved," said IMF spokesman, Caroline Atkinson, in a statement.

1000 Troops From Saudi and United Arab Emirates Arrived In Bahrain

According to The Los Angeles (LA) Times, television stations broadcast Monday Bahrain Saudi forces the pace on the road that connects it with the kingdom of Bahrain. Saudis apparently concerned to help the monarchy Khalifa in Bahrain, which has been hit by several weeks of protests.

Saudi military and police presence Emirate under the mandate of the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC), consisting of six Arab states in the Persian Gulf.

"Foreign forces began to arrive in Bahrain related to the current situation is regrettable," the Bahrain government. The government had asked all the people and settlers to fully cooperate with GCC troops and welcomed them warmly, "continued the statement.

But the protesters showed the opposite reaction. They began to expand the barricades and checkpoints to multiply so that foreign troops be difficult to penetrate the capital of Bahrain, Manama, which became the center of turmoil. Until Monday night local time has not seen the presence of foreign troops and police in central Manama.

"If they [the Saudis] to send troops, they will kill us," said a protester named Abdullah Ali about the presence of the Saudi army. "We are ready to be killed. Everyone here is also ready, "said Ali, who quoted the LA Times.

Since last February, they protest in downtown, the Pearl Roundabout, because it can not stand the discriminatory treatment of the monarchy, causing social inequality. This issue is about class conflict, because the royal family and government officials is a Sunni Muslim, while the majority of the people of Bahrain is Shia adherents.

Saudi Arabia has long been concerned about the turmoil in Bahrain, because it can cause a similar protest in their country. Because the majority of the people who inhabit eastern Arabia, which borders with Bahrain, is a Shia adherents.

Crown Prince Kingdom of Bahrain, Sheikh Salman bin Hamad Khalifa, has invited a dialogue with the protesters. However, the opposition is still not solid and has so far not responded to government's offer of dialogue to resolve the unrest.

Meanwhile, Foreign Minister of the UAE, Abdullah bin Zayed Nahyan, on Monday to make sure that it has sent 500 policemen to join with Saudi forces in Bahrain.

United State Vows To Begin Hunting Ayman Al-Zawahiri

Author:
Admiral Mike Mullen, chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, told al-Zawahiri to expect the same treatment meted out to bin Laden, who was killed by US commandos in the dead of night in a May 2 raid on his hideout in Pakistan.

"As we did both seek to capture and kill - and succeed in killing - Bin Laden, we certainly will do the same thing with al-Zawahiri," Mullen said.

Al-Qaeda under the new leadership of al-Zawahiri will pursue its fight against the US and Israel, the group said in a statement posted online on Thursday.

"We seek with the aid of God to call for the religion of truth and incite our nation to fight ... by carrying out jihad against the apostate invaders ... with their head being crusader America and its servant Israel, and whoever supports them," it said.

In a full news on june 16 2011 Al-jazeera wrote that "The US has dismissed Ayman al-Zawahiri, the new al-Qaeda chief as a pale imitation of Osama bin Laden and warned the Egyptian to expect a similar fate to his slain predecessor.

US officials painted the 59-year-old long-time number two as an "armchair general" with no combat experience, saying he not only lacked charisma and leadership skills but was also a divisive figure who could fracture al-Qaeda.

'Continuation of threat'

Robert Gates, the defence secretary, giving his valedictory press briefing at the Pentagon, could barely disguise his scorn, but warned that the announcement should serve as a reminder of the continuing al-Qaeda threat.

"First of all I think we should be mindful that this announcement by al-Qaeda reminds us that despite having suffered a huge loss ... Al-Qaeda seeks to perpetuate itself, seeks to find replacements for those who have been killed, and remains committed to the agenda that bin Laden put before them."

But Gates, who joked that it was "probably tough to count votes when you're in a cave", said al-Zawahiri faced "some challenges".

"Bin Laden has been the leader of al-Qaeda essentially since its inception," he said. "In that particular context he had a peculiar charisma that I think Zawahiri does not have. I think he was much more operationally engaged than we have the sense al-Zawahiri has been."

Gates also alluded to possible suspicion within al-Qaeda because of al-Zawahiri's Egyptian nationality, a point taken up earlier by a senior administration official.

Al-Zawahiri had been al-Qaeda's number two for years.

$25m bounty

Now Washington's most wanted man, al-Zawahiri was jailed for three years in Egypt for militancy and was implicated in the assassination of Egyptian president Anwar Sadat in 1981, and a 1997 massacre of tourists in Luxor.

Facing a death sentence, al-Zawahiri left Egypt in the mid-1980s initially for Saudi Arabia, but soon headed for Pakistan's northwestern city of Peshawar where the resistance to the Soviet occupation of Afghanistan was based, and then to Afghanistan, where he joined forces with Bin Laden.

His whereabouts are unknown but he is widely believed to be hiding along the border between Afghanistan and Pakistan. The United States is offering a $25m reward for any information leading to his capture or conviction.

"Only a few weeks ago when the US Secretary of State Hillary Clinton was here in Pakistan she reportedly gave Pakistan what's been described as a hitlist", Al Jazeera's Imtiaz Tyab, reporting from Islamabad, said.

"It listed five names and al-Zawahiri's name was on the list. Whether that means the new al-Qaeda leader is here we don't know for sure, but it certainly raises some questions."

Believed to be in his late 50s, al-Zawahiri met bin Laden in the mid-1980s when both were in Pakistan to support fighters battling the Soviet Union in Afghanistan.

Continuing the struggle

Al-Zawahiri vowed earlier this month to press ahead with al-Qaeda's campaign against the US and its allies, in what appeared to be his first public response to bin Laden's death.

"The Sheikh [bin Laden] has departed, may God have mercy on him, to his God as a martyr, and we must continue on his path of jihad to expel the invaders from the land of Muslims and to purify it from injustice," he said in a video message posted online.

"Today, and thanks be to God, America is not facing an individual or a group ... but a rebelling nation which has awoken from its sleep in a jihadist renaissance challenging it wherever it is."

In Thursday's statement, al-Qaeda voiced its "support [to] the uprisings of our oppressed Muslim people against the corrupt and tyrant leaders who have made our nation suffer in Egypt, Tunisia, Libya Yemen, Syria and Morocco."

The group urged those involved in the uprisings to continue their "struggle until the fall of all corrupt regimes that the West has forced onto our countries".

But Al Jazeera's Ayman Mohyeldin, reporting from Cairo, where a popular uprising toppled longtime President Hosni Mubarak in February, said the so-called "Arab Spring" had undermined al-Qaeda in many Arab countries.

"This has been a significant blow to the ideology of al-Qaeda", he said. "Many believe al-Qaeda has lost a great deal of momentum and support across the Arab world because these revolutions were able to deliver change without the use of violence."

Dominique Strauss-Kahn, the former chief of IMF Claimed Immunity

Author:
Strauss-Kahn told a Port Authority detective, "I have diplomatic immunity," according to a transcript in the document. But four hours later, he told a New York Police officer with the Manhattan Special Victims squad, "No, no, no, I'm not trying to use that. I just want to know if I need a lawyer."

In a full story CNN wrote on their papaers "Dominique Strauss-Kahn, the former chief of the International Monetary Fund, at first claimed to have diplomatic immunity when he was taken into custody, but later said he was not invoking it, according to a new prosecution document.

Strauss-Kahn pleaded not guilty June 6 to seven charges involving a May 14 incident in which a housekeeping employee at New York's Sofitel hotel accused him of sexual assault.

The IMF has said Strauss-Kahn would have been entitled to diplomatic immunity only if his alleged crime involved official fund business, which is not the case in this situation.

Strauss-Kahn repeatedly questioned why he was being detained, at one point asking, "What is this about?"

When he was approached by Port Authority officers on an Air France flight at John F. Kennedy International Airport, the first thing he said was, "Do you have my cell phone?" The report shows he called the hotel several times, looking for a phone he thought he left behind.

Later that night, just before 11 p.m., he was asked whether he'd like to speak to detectives about the incident. He responded, "My attorney has told me not to talk. I was ready to talk."

Strauss-Kahn, who was considered a front-runner in France's presidential race before his arrest, faces charges including criminal sexual acts and sexual abuse.

His attorney, Ben Brafman, declined to comment on details of the case in a brief statement outside the courtroom after entering the plea.

"We intend to defend this case and defend it vigorously, but we are going to do so in the courtroom," Brafman said, renewing statements that evidence in the case will reveal his client is innocent.

The new court filing indicates that several reports will be forthcoming, including a medical examination of the housekeeping employee, DNA reports, a sexual assault forensic examination, photographs and electronic recordings.

According to New York police, the attack happened soon after the housekeeper entered Strauss-Kahn's suite to clean it.

Strauss-Kahn emerged naked from a room, ran down a hallway, shut a door to prevent the woman from leaving and attacked her, according to police and prosecutors.

According to court documents and prosecutors, Strauss-Kahn grabbed the woman's chest, tried to take off her pantyhose and forcibly grabbed her between her legs.

The criminal complaint against Strauss-Kahn alleges that he forced the woman to engage "in oral sexual conduct and anal sexual conduct" and tried to force her to engage in sexual intercourse.

The next court date for Strauss-Kahn is July 18, according to Erin Duggan of the district attorney's office. No date for a trial has been set, Duggan said.

The alleged victim, who has not returned to work, intends to testify against Strauss-Kahn, said her attorney, Ken Thompson.

"She is going to come into this courthouse, get on that witness stand and tell the world what Dominique Strauss did to her," Thompson said.

He declined to discuss specifics of any possible settlement negotiations with Strauss-Kahn, saying his focus is preserving the good name of his client.

She was described by a former attorney as a 32-year-old single mother living in the New York borough of the Bronx who moved to the United States from the West African country of Guinea.

At the hearing, defense lawyers formally requested that Manhattan prosecutors provide discovery materials: copies of scientific reports as well as police reports and formal statements made by the hotel employee.

Prosecutors have not turned over the information to defense attorneys, Duggan said.

The defense has said that some of that information has already been leaked to the media.

"Our client's right to a fair trial is being compromised by the public disclosure of prejudicial material even before these materials have been disclosed to counsel," Strauss-Kahn's attorneys wrote before the hearing in a letter to the judge.

They said that if they chose to, they could "release substantial information that in our view would seriously undermine the quality of this prosecution and also gravely undermine the credibility of the complainant in this case."

In response, Manhattan Assistant District Attorney Joan Illuzzi-Orbon wrote in a letter that the request for the materials would be addressed if the request was made in writing.

Illuzzi-Orbon told the defense she agreed with the need to safeguard information from leaks but was "troubled that you chose to inject into the public record your claim that you possess information that might negatively impact the case and 'gravely' undermine the credibility of the victim."

If the defense does possess such information, it should be forwarded to prosecutors, she said.

Strauss-Kahn was released from jail on bail but is under house arrest in a luxury townhouse in New York's Tribeca neighborhood, according to a source with knowledge of his whereabouts.

He is under court-ordered watch as part of the terms of his $6 million bail agreement and must pay for 24-hour armed guards posted at the door, as well as electronic surveillance."

Al-zawahiri`s Mini Biografi:

"Ayman Muhammad Rabaie al-Zawahiri(Arabic: أيمن محمد ربيع الظواهري‎, ʾAyman Muḥammad Rabīʿ aẓ-Ẓawāhirī; born June 19, 1951) is an Egyptian Islamic theologian and terrorist, who was the second and last "emir" of the Egyptian Islamic Jihad, having succeeded Abbud al-Zumar in the latter role when Egyptian authorities sentenced al-Zumar to life imprisonment. As of May 2, 2011, he is assumed to be the sole figurehead of al-Qaeda due to the death of Osama bin Laden. He has a $25 million bounty on his head for information leading to his capture.

Al-Zawahiri is reportedly a qualified surgeon; when his organization merged with bin Laden's al-Qaeda, he became bin Laden's personal advisor and physician. He had first met bin Laden in Jeddah in 1986. Al- Zawahiri has shown a deep and radical understanding of Islamic theology and Islamic history. He speaks Arabic, Englishand French. Al-Zawahiri is under worldwide sanctions by the United Nations Security Council 1267 Committee as a member or affiliate of al-Qaeda.

In 1998, al-Zawahiri formally merged the Egyptian Islamic Jihad into al-Qaeda. According to reports by a former al-Qaeda member, he has worked in the al-Qaeda organization since its inception and was a senior member of the group's shura council. He was often described as a "lieutenant" to Osama bin Laden, though bin Laden's chosen biographer has referred to him as the "real brains" of al-Qaeda. On June 16, 2011, al-Qaeda announced that al-Zawahiri had been selected as bin Laden's successor as al-Queda's former leader had been killed in a US operation on May 2nd 2011."

People in Most U.S. Counties Aren't Living As long Other Countries.

Author:
"When we look at what's happened in U.S. counties in the past decade in terms of improving life expectancy and compare it to what is medically possible and what other countries have been able to achieve, we are not keeping up," said Murray.
"Three Main Factors Contributing to Life Expectancy, Say Experts

Murray says three factors are largely responsible for the declines in life expectancy -- smoking, obesity and high blood pressure.

"The places where we're seeing drops in life expectancy often have the biggest obesity epidemics," he said.

"The increase in obesity rates are certainly an issue, since being overweight or obese can influence a whole variety of potentially serious and even fatal diseases -- coronary artery disease, diabetes, cerebrovascular disease, chronic renal disease, osteoarthritis to name just a few," said Dr. Henry Black, clinical professor of internal medicine at New York University's Langone School of Medicine.

But some experts say poor access to health care is to blame. A recent study by two faculty members at Columbia University's Mailman School of Public Health found risk factors such as smoking and obesity are not the main culprits in decreasing life expectancy. "
The quote above taken from Abc News On June 16 2011 in "Most U.S. Counties Not Living as Long as Other Countries"

rest story says "Limited access to health care could be contributing to the U.S.'s lower life expectancy when compared with other countries."

A new report says people in most U.S. counties aren't living as long as people in other countries.
Posted by Sumber Cara Wanita
According to the University of Washington's Institute for Health Metrics and Evaluation, over the past decade, life expectancy in the majority of U.S. counties dropped below the life expectancy of people in the 10 nations who live the longest.

"Despite the fact that the U.S. spends more per capita than any other nation on health, eight out of every 10 counties are not keeping pace in terms of health outcomes. That's a staggering statistic," said Dr. Chris Murray, the institute's director.

In 2007, life expectancy across counties ranged from 65.9 to 81.1 years for men and 73.5 and 86 years for women. Between 1987 and 2007, life expectancy increased nationwide from 71.3 years to 75.6 years for men and from 78.4 to 80.8 years for women. Despite the increase, they still lag more than three years below people who live in the 10 longest-living nations, which include Japan, Australia, Singapore and Sweden.Posted by Sumber Cara Wanita

"When we look at what's happened in U.S. counties in the past decade in terms of improving life expectancy and compare it to what is medically possible and what other countries have been able to achieve, we are not keeping up," said Murray.

The counties with the lowest life expectancies are:

Women:

Holmes, Miss.

Sunflower, Miss.

Humphreys, Miss.

Sharkey, Miss.

Quitman, Miss.

The life expectancies in these counties are lower than 74 years, placing them behind such nations as Honduras, El Salvador and Peru.

Men:

Holmes, Miss.

Quitman, Miss.

Tunica, Miss.

McDowell, Miss.

Humphreys, Miss.

The life expectancies in these counties are lower than 69 years, lower than those of Brazil, Latvia and the Philippines.

The counties with the highest life expectancies are the same for men and women:

Collier, Fla.

Teton, Wyo.

Marin, Calif.

Montgomery, Md.

San Mateo, Calif.

"Weaknesses in the health care system such as a rising number of uninsured and fragmentation of care [play] a larger role," said Karen Davis, president of the Commonwealth Fund, a foundation devoted to health care research.

Murray's report also did not find any link to income or the recession.

"There are several examples of counties where life expectancy went down and income went up," Murray said. "It's probably better to have a higher income, but that's not really much of this story."

"One can't easily blame the recent recession for these data, since though we suspect that our citizens are postponing seeing a health care professional since the recession began, I doubt that would be a factor large enough to influence life expectancy this quickly," said Black.

Health policy experts say by focusing on preventing chronic diseases, the U.S. can save valuable health care dollars and the population's health can improve over time.

"We have made progress recently in reducing rates of smoking, but rates of obesity are getting worse," said Robert Field, professor of health management and policy at Drexel University School of Public Health in Philadelphia. "The diseases that these factors cause can take decades to develop, so we won't see improvements in life expectancy for a while."

Life expectancy is also one factor that can determine how successful the health care reform law is.

"If health care reform is to be a success, it should be doing something about our health," said Murray. "Reversing this trend is essentially what reform should be judged against."
